Sundowns players will get us there – Pitso

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his team have the personnel to sustain them until the end, as the Brazilians coach chases a third Absa Premiership title in five years at the club.

Sundowns will next host Luc Eymael’s revitalised Free State Stars side tomorrow at Loftus Versfeld, with the opportunity to extend their lead over Kaizer Chiefs at the top of the table to seven points.

“We have enough players to take us all the way, unlike last season when we lost it with three games to go,” said Mosimane.

“We are trying our best to play everybody, at Sundowns we all play. We don’t have 24 players just for the sake of having 24 players, but we make sure that everyone plays.”

Downs have been the league’s pace-setters for the better part of the season, and Mosimane says everyone is hoping that they stumble at the summit.

“It is an advantage because we are at top of the table and I guess when you are at the top then everyone wants to shoot at you. Somewhere, somehow, everybody wants the team to drop points,” he said.

Stars are in fourth place in the Absa Premiership and have been showing glimpses of their potential as they are putting up a good challenge for the title.

However, Mosimane says all his team needs to do from now on is to make sure that they “manage” those teams that are around them.

“We need to manage that and not let them get closer because they are capable of coming at us. Look at Kaizer Chiefs, they are not scoring a lot of goals, they usually score one goal. But that goal is good because they don’t concede a lot,” he said.

“We are done with (playing) Chiefs and we are done with Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City too, we will be done with Free State Stars and that means everybody has the same opportunity to go for the title,” added Mosimane.

He continued: “According to our programme, we are five points behind from what we think is right for us to win the league.”
