Following a successful season with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, striker Rhoda Mulaudzi, has not forgotten where she comes from after making donations to her village Vuwani in Limpopo where she grew up.
Together with the help of sports betting company Betway, Mulaudzi donated playing kits, equipment such as markers, bibs, and hydration bottles to the local football association to help develop women’s football.
The Banyana Banyana striker, who recently helped Banyana Ba Style to their second successive domestic league title after winning the Caf Women’s Champions League and the Caf Cosafa Championships qualifiers, has seen the need to help her own village, where football equipment is hard to attain.
“While women’s football continues to be on the rise, there are certain areas of the country such as my village that struggle to have access to the basic requirements that are needed to play the game, such as the playing kit and training equipment. Without such basics, it is nearly impossible to spark interest in the sport, more especially for aspiring women footballers,” said Mulaudzi.
“The assistance from Betway is truly appreciated by the clubs and the people in our village, as it will without a doubt boost their confidence and help them perform better as teams and individuals.”
Betway SA Marketing Manager, David Rachidi, hopes the donation will go a long way in helping clubs at the village of Vuwani to continue helping grow women’s football in the area and maybe one day another Banyana star will be born from there.
“Betway has become synonymous with going the extra mile and pulling out all the stops in ensuring that a positive difference in community sport development is made. When Rhoda reached out to us, we saw it as a great opportunity for us to put a festive smile on the faces of these clubs and subsequently the community of Vuwani. We hope that this donation serves as a good motivation for them to follow in the footsteps of Rhoda when it comes to women’s football,” said Rachidi.
