Sundowns Ladies’ coach fretting over lack of goals ahead of final CL group game

Banyana Ba Style won their first two group stage encounters with 1-0 scorelines.

Ahead of their crucial last Group B game against Asfar ladies in the Caf Women’s Champions League at the El Salam Stadium in Cairo on Friday., Mamelodi Sundowns ladies coach Jerry Tshabalala says his charges need to create more goal scoring opportunities.

The Pretoria based team face the Moroccan outfit only needing a draw or a win to saunter into the semi-finals of the maiden continental women’s tournament.

Tshabalala’s troops have secured two successive wins already, beating Vihiga Queens and Rivers Angels, both with a 1-0 score-line. Banyana Ba Style have three points lead at the top of the mini log, with six points in the bag, while Asfar and Queens are tied on three points, and Angels are last in the group having yet to secure any points and they are already out of the tournament.

Despite their victory against Angels, Tshabalala wasn’t totally satisfied with the team’s display and is looking forward to an improved performance against the Moroccans, especially in front of goals.

“It wasn’t an easy game, it was a tough game for us. But we knew it was going to be like this, Rivers is a big team, we know the players they have produced. They couldn’t collect points in the first game, so they needed more than anyone. We tried to play, but it was difficult, they came high and changed the system twice in the first half.

Though I am not happy with the team’s performance, there are a couple of positives I can take from this game. If we are solid at the back, then there is a positive that the team can rely on,” said the Downs ladies mentor.

“But overall, three points is better than nothing. But I am worried that we are not creating a lot of chances, especially in this game. We couldn’t even create one or two. We were fortunate to get one in the back of the net. But I believe we will go to the drawing and try to create more opportunities in the next game.”
