A massive 18 goals in three games have been scored by Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies at the Cosafa Caf Champions League in Durban, with the team having secured their place in semi-final.
On Monday, the Sundowns Ladies played their last Group A game by thrashing Manzini Wanderers 6-1, having won 6-0 against Double Action and Lesotho Defence Force in their opening two games.
Things are looking promising for the Pretoria side ahead of the semi-finals.
In their game against Warriors, Downs coach Agnes Nkosi made a number of changes in her team, giving players who haven’t played much game time. But still, with the changes, there was no difference in the hunger from her troops as they delivered another remarkable performance.
“Today’s (Monday) game was all about giving players who have not played an opportunity to play. I’m happy with the way they played because it’s been a while since they last played and the goals they scored, I’m happy with them,” said Nkosi.“
Even the substitutions we made, they came in and changed the complexion of the game. It shows that when we have a problem with our starting line-up there are always some players that we can count on to do the job for us.
”With the main prize of this competition being a ticket to the inaugural Caf Women’s Champions League to be staged in Egypt later this year, Nkosi says all they want is to see themselves competing at the North African country and they know what they have to do to achieve that.“
“What I can say is that we are hungry, we want to see ourselves playing in Egypt. So, what we just have to do is to make sure we win the semi-finals and the final. That’s all we have to do to ensure we go to Egypt.”
Sundowns will face Group B runners-up between Green Buffaloes and Tura Magic in the first semi-finals on Thursday, while the final is set to be played on Saturday.
