Sundowns edge Cotonsport to head Group B

It might have been April Fools’ day but Mamelodi Sundowns were in no mood for jokes as they made their intentions clear in the Caf Champions League on Saturday night when they beat Cotonsport 2-1 to make sure that they finish at the summit of Group B.
As it has been the culture of the Chloorkop-based side, Sundowns open their gates at Loftus for fans who are clad in the colours of Masandawana, the the Downs faithful were treated to a marvellous game of football in the capital city.

Sundowns, who had already booked their qualification to the knockout stages in the previous round, were on the front foot against their visitors as they instigated attack after attack, but the goal posts were not friendly for Sundowns until the visitors decided to be father Christmas and gifted Sundowns with a goal in the 43rd minute through and Marie Mekong own goal.
It took Sundowns some 85 minutes to score a goal of their own an it was Thabiso Kutumela who played the assist to Abubaker Nassir, who made his return from injury after a couple of months on the sidelines as he netted to make sure that Bafana Ba Style finish at the top of the standings.
Moshood Kasalit got a stoppage time consolation for his side but time was not on their side to launch a fight back.
Meanwhile, Al-Ahly managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat as they were put in a tight spot before this match day. The record holders needed to win their game against Al Hilal and they did their part, beating them to make sure that they qualify for the last eight of the tournament.
