'That's what we need to do, approach the next matches we have with ambition,' said the Sundowns head coach.

Sundowns will play Richards Bay at Loftus Stadium today before travelling to Cape Town City on Saturday.

Sundowns’ Cardoso – ‘As many points as possible’

“That’s what we need to do, approach the next matches we have with ambition, and try to get as many points as possible, as quickly as possible,” said Cardoso.

Sundowns are chasing an eighth consecutive Premiership title. They are currently nine points clear of Orlando Pirates at the top of the table.

The Buccaneers do have two games in hand. But if Sundowns can keep on winning, the pressure on Pirates may well become too much to bear.

The Sundowns head coach, however, is not happy with the football authorities that his team has to play so soon after returning from their Caf Champions League semifinal success against Al Ahly in Cairo.

Sundowns drew 1-1 at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday to seal their place in the Champions League final.

“Surprisingly, our match day on Sunday (against City) has been brought forward to Saturday,” said Cardoso.

‘This should be respected’

“Now we have a match on Wednesday, Saturday and then again on Wednesday. It’s important that South African football, and the heads of the sport understand that this club has been fighting for years, defending the identity of the country, in Africa and abroad.

“This should be respected. But difficulties make us stronger, and that’s how we are going to fight for the championship until the end.”
