Strikers’ secret meeting yielding positive results

Orlando Pirates forward Gabadinho Mhango and AmaZulu striker Bongi Ntuli are leading the sharp shooters’ list with 10 goals each while Peter Shalulile of Highlands Park, Kaizer Chiefs marksman Samir Nurkovic and SuperSport United’s Bradley Grobler make up the top five PSL goalscorers.

With over 10 games still left to play in the Absa Premiership and Mhango stating that he wants to score more, while Ntuli and Nurkovic are not slowing down anytime soon, this means whoever lifts the top goal scorer award at the end of the season could well score more than 15 goals.

In recent seasons we couldn’t name three certified goal scores who were consistent, until this campaign where the quality of the goal poachers has gone up.

It is as if the strikers in the Absa Premiership from different teams had a secret society meeting because they got tired of the complaints from retired players, supporters, journalists, TV football analyst and a few guys standing around the braai stand, saying the Absa Premiership lacks proven goalscorers.

Strikers received a lot of backlash over the past few seasons and this season they are getting their revenge and silencing the critics who come from every corner.

In the secret meeting, scoring must have been top of the agenda followed by how big number nine strikers can move and dribble opponents closely followed by goal celebration that seem to be as stylish as the goals.

Thamsanqa Gabuza and Leonardo Castro were written off at the end of last season but have since returned to top form thanks to the secret strikers’ meeting.

The friendliness between strikers after games on the field is that of drinking buddies. We can only hope they are not debating which bar to visit to further discuss goal scoring methods while the television cameras are rolling.

The season is far from over but it seems strikers will have the last laugh by having more than 10 goals in the bag in one campaign, something many thought will never happen.
