Stephens has kept 11 clean sheets from Benni McCarthy’s side this season.
On Wednesday night, the goalkeeper helped City progress to the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup at the expense of Orlando Pirates, having kept another clean sheet from this match.
“For me, it is to keep doing it consistently looking at obviously getting into the national team, that is a dream of mine,” Stephens told Phakaaathi.
“That is my dream to represent the national team, unfortunately it didn’t happen right now for the upcoming tournament but it is more motivation for me now to keep working hard.”
Stephens has managed to make the number one jersey his at City, keeping the more experienced Shuaib Walters on the bench.
“He and I have a good relationship, you wouldn’t say that we are competing for the same spot, he gives me advice. We have a good relationship off the field, but I still work hard and try to get more game time.”
