Stats and tactics don’t work at this stage – Kekana

Statistics and tactics are thrown out of the window in the final stages of the season, according to Mamelodi Sundowns skipper Hlompho Kekana.

Kekana insists that now is not time to be tactically astute or refer to stats at this crucial stage of the season.

“This time of the season the stats don’t count much if you don’t play your normal game and if you don’t play according to your game plan then you will not stand a chance of winning,” he said.

“This time of the season is a difficult time of playing football. The tactics are not that important, we just want to make sure that we win our matches until the last match. When you look at the situation now, we are okay and we need to win and try to extend the gap,” he added.

Masandawana face Bidvest Wits on Saturday evening at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium where they will look to extend their Absa Premiership lead over Orlando Pirates to six points.

“Playing against Wits is always difficult but we are playing at home this time around so we are hoping to win the match,” he said.

“When you play against Wits, tactics don’t work much, it is about who wants it more because Wits fight and they don’t want to give you space to breathe,” added the Bafana Bafana international.
