Spurs sack coach Bartlett after poor start to season

“A shortlist of candidates has been identified and an announcement is expected imminently," read a statement from Spurs.


Struggling Cape Town Spurs sacked coach Shaun Bartlett on Monday after failing to win any of their first seven matches in the DStv Premiership.

In a statement, the club said even though they appreciate Bartlett’s work, they had to come to a decision to release him.

“Following an extensive review and discussions with Shaun Bartlett and taking into consideration the current set of results- we have mutually agreed to the termination of the he coach’s contract with immediate effect,” read the statement from the club.

“The club wish to place on record our appreciation for Shaun’s work during his time at the club most significantly promoting the club back to the PSL. We recognise this is not an easy decision for all parties, but it has been taken with the club’s long-term interest at heart.”

Furthermore, the club thanked Bartlett for his services with the team, having been in charge of the Cape side since 2022.

“Everyone at Cape Town Spurs wishes Shaun Bartlett all the best in his future coaching career. CEO Alexi Efstathiou and Technical Director Sean Connor have already begun the re-structure of the coaching set up at the club,” the statement continued.

“A shortlist of candidates has been identified and an announcement is expected imminently.”
