Sponsors not ditching Safa despite Jordaan’s rape claims

In the wake of singer Jennifer Ferguson’s claims that she was raped by Jordaan over 20 years ago while she was living in South Africa, sponsors say they are focused on fulfiling their contractual obligations with Safa.

“SAB’s contract is with the organisation and not an individual and we would look to Safa to advise on how it plans to engage on this matter,” SA Breweries spokeswoman Robyn Chalmers told Sunday World.

The SAA spokesman Tlali Tlali says their relationship is with Safa not Jordaan.

“We trust that Safa will manage the situation in the best way possible. This is a very sensitive matter, one which requires a considerable degree of circumspection and consideration to the rights of both the alleged victim and perpetrator,” he said.

“Sasol is committed to the empowerment of young women through sport and we will uphold our contract with the Safa to focus on the development of women’s football,” said Sasol spokeswoman Matebello Motloung.

“We are committed to the development of football in South Africa,” said Nike spokeswoman Seruscka Naidoo.
