Someone please check on Mpengesi, he might be unwell

Kicking a habit is said to be one of the most difficult things one can go through in life.

I have witnessed a friend trying to quit smoking. I volunteered to be his “supporter” when he decided to quit.

I was in two minds, however, as I remember how he started this bad habit when we were teenagers in high school. I tried so many times to discourage him. But he persisted.

I also had my struggle some 11 or 12 years ago. I somehow found myself unable to go for more than four hours without having a Coca-Cola (Coke). I remember one time I was living in a dangerous part of Pietermaritzburg but I ended up being brave enough to go through an area known for its high rate of mugging and violent attacks, all because I needed to have my sip of Coke.

Learning to stop drinking Coke ever so often was a serious struggle. And that is why I decided to be supportive of my friend when he wanted to quit smoking. I understood why he wanted to quit and why he needed as much support as he could possibly get. But I digress, this should be about football.

Now I am thinking that Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi might be going through the same struggle as he learns to live without firing a coach. Norman Mapeza seems to be making it impossible for the trigger-happy club owner to pull the trigger.

This can’t be easy for Chippa. He surely needs support and can someone please go out there and make sure he is coping. He has never gone so long without firing a coach.
