Shabba ready for Bafana duty

Kaizer Chiefs’ Siphiwe Tshabalala has revealed that he was told by Amakhosi official Abdulla Mayet that he had been recalled into Bafana Bafana for the crucial 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Senegal in November.

Tshabalala told a media conference at the PSL offices on Thursday afternoon that he was just coming out of training when Mayet broke the news to him.

“I am really happy with the call up. It is an honour to be back in the national team. I am not there just to add numbers. I hope that my knowledge and experienced earned the past years will help the team qualify.

“I have said it before that I still want to play for the national team and I knew if I continued doing well for Chiefs I would got the call-up.

“Even if the call-up means I sit on the bench and get to and motivate the other guys I would still take it. It’s a big game for the country and it needs everyone to be fully involved including the fans. It is not just about Bafana but the entire country,” said Shabba who scored the first goal in the 2010 edition of the World Cup.

“I received the news when I was on my way to the swimming pool for a regeneration session. Iwas told by Mr Mayet that I was in the national team. Obviously I was very happy and I just thanked myself for working very hard and believing in myself. It is fair for me to thank my teammates and technical team for helping me become a better player,” said Tshabalala.
