Chiefs, buoyed by a recent 3-2 victory over Cape Town Spurs, enter the game as the home team.
Orlando Pirates, fresh from a competitive win against Sekhukhune United, carry newfound belief into this pivotal encounter.
For Chiefs, the defensive duo of Given Msimango and Thatayaone Dithlokwe assumes pivotal roles in the Soweto derby for the first time.
Dithlokwe is the Botswana national team captain and joined Amakhosi from SuperSport United.
Msimango was captain of TS Galaxy last season. The two have formed a good combination so far.
Their untested mettle however will be scrutinised in one of the country’s most significant sporting events.
The midfield showcases two debutantes, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Edson Castillo, who step into the intensity of their inaugural Soweto derby.
Alongside them, lone striker Ranga Chivaviro shoulders the goal-scoring responsibilities for Amakhosi.
Mthethwa joined Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC, and Castillo comes from Venezuela.
On the Buccaneers’ side, goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi makes his debut in the Soweto derby, adding an extra layer of anticipation to the clash.
Buthelezi was with Galaxy last season where his heroics earned him a few Bafana Bafana call-ups.
Patrick Maswanganyi, another newcomer to this fierce rivalry, contributes to Pirates’ strategy in this high-stakes encounter.
He was a surprise find for Pirates from SuperSport United where he was used sparingly last season, but has become a crucial player for Jose Riveiro.
The benches also feature fresh faces ready to make their mark, with Pule Mmodi and Karim Kimvuidi on standby, prepared for their first taste of the Soweto derby.
Mmodi joined Chiefs from Golden Arrows while Kimvuidi came to the Buccaneers from Maritzburg United who were relegated last season.
As the sold-out FNB Stadium brims with energy, these seven debutantes will play pivotal roles in shaping the narrative of the 105th Soweto derby.
