Senong hoping Mahlambi will join Amajita squad in Zambia

Senong believes Mahlambi will be of great value should he join the squad at the tournament in Zambia.

Amajita coach Thabo Senong is hoping Bidvest Wits winger Phakamani Mahlambi will join the rest of the squad after the player didn’t travel with the team to Ndola on Friday.

The team will be participating in the Caf Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Zambia.

“Our management at Safa is engaging with Phakamani’s team to see if we can get him just before we kick-off our first game,” said Senong just before boarding the plane to Zambia.

“He will be an asset if he comes to the team, but again, if he doesn’t come we still have 20 players who must do the job and face Cameroon in our first game.”

In the last few weeks, Wits coach Gavin Hunt has made it clear that Mahlambi will not travel with the team for the competition, but, now with Safa involved, it remains to be seen whether the 19-year old will be allowed to go to Zambia.

Amajita’s first group match is against the young Indomitable Lions on Monday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
