Safety first, says Ajax coach

Inkamva are lingering at No. 11 on the Absa Premiership standings on 26 points, with just four points separating them from the play-offs and automatic relegation positions, which are currently occupied by Rookies Highlands Park and Baroka FC respectively.

“We need to be safe first before we can think about a top-eight finish,” said Menzo.

The Mother City-based outfit are up against 10th-place Platinum Stars on Sunday at the Cape Town Stadium, where a win will see them make a giant leap towards a top-eight finish.

“The moment we get six points, then we safe then we can look forward to see that more can we achieve. But first thing first, we need to get those points first, and when we’re safe we can then go forward,” said the Dutchman.

Menzo, who has almost two decades of coaching experience under his belt, says this is not the first time he has found himself embroiled in a relegation battle. And as such, he believes his experience will guide the Urban Warriors to safety.

“I have been in relegation battles before, I survived twice, I am going to survive the third time. Right now it is about surviving and creating an atmosphere where everyone knows what to do,” he said.
