Safa have been searching for the new man to take charge of the senior national team for a few months now, and they have for a weeks promised to announce the new coach.
“SuperSport United has given permission to the South African Football Association to engage their head coach Stuart Baxter with the view of him becoming the head coach of Bafana Bafana,” read a statement on the club’s official Facebook page.
“If negations between Mr Baxter and Safa are successful, and SuperSport and Safa agree on an early termination of Mr Baxter contract, such appointment would only be done at the end of the current PSL season, officially commencing on 1 July 2017.”
Should Safa go for Baxter and with United only agreeing to release him in July, it will only mean Owen da Gama who was in charge of the team during the recent international friendly games against Guinea-Bissau and Angola will once again take over team for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria in June.
