Riveiro delighted with Pirates’ perfect league start

"Four victories in a row? Was it expected? It doesn't matter," said Riveiro.

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is delighted with his side’s perfect start to the Betway Premiership season.

The Buccaneers maintained their perfect league record this season with a fourth successive win as goals in each half from Evidence Makgopa and Deon Hotto earned them a 2-0 victory over SuperSport United at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.

The win propelled Pirates to the top of the Betway Premiership standings, three points above Mamelodi Sundowns who play Royal AM tonight.

“Four victories in a row? Was it expected? It doesn’t matter. What’s important is that we’re working hard to make it possible. We’re doing a good job so far in the league. The guys are performing at a good level. Today (Tuesday) in defence, the team did well. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we start again [with preparations] because we are meeting AmaZulu in two days. Hopefully, we’ll make it five [wins in a row],” said Riveiro after the match.

Pirates coach Riveiro lauds Nkota

The Spanish coach also praised Mohau Nkota for his contribution in the match. The young striker made his first start for Pirates this season and lasted for 65 minutes before he was replaced by captain Innocent Maela.

“I’m really happy to see Mohau on the field playing with his personality. I think that everybody got the opportunity to see the player that he is,” said Riveiro.

“This is Nkota the way he showed it today on the field with good things. It’s important to see these youngsters playing with personality and playing with confidence and some others like Rele (Relebohile Mofokeng) the future belongs to them,” Riveiro added.

“Right now, it’s in their hands to keep their feet on the ground, to take care of themselves, and to stay humble because they still have lots of things to learn in this profession.

“But now it’s time for them to work hard so they can keep going forward because others will do it and if they don’t do.

“It doesn’t matter that you have these opportunities like they do right now. So, I’m wishing him (Mohau Nkota) all the best, he is a humble guy, and he is a hard worker. The future belongs to him.”

Pirates next face AmaZulu at the Orlando Stadium on Friday at 7.30pm.
