Relegated Swallows looking for PSL status

Swallows, who were relegated to the SAB League after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Orange Vaal Professionals on Saturday, tried to buy the Free State Stars status last season, but the deal fell through at the last moment.

“We could not do that immediately because we couldn’t abandon the ship because if you do that there’s a dispute about the name of that franchise, because Moroka Swallows is the name that you can’t get from the shelves that is why we want to go through the process until we are sure if we get a status with all the authority,” Lesufi told the SABC.

Lesufi apologised to the Swallows fans for the club’s relegation to SAB League.

“We apologise to the Swallows supporters, family and sponsors. We are committed to this team to resuscitate, but unfortunately, the team was in a terrible state.

“We have debts that run over R197 million. We had many challenges. We also have to appear to Fifa for some of the cases or else Fifa will dissolve the team. We owe a lot of institutions, like Sars.

“We just have to go back to the drawing board for the next three months, repackage a strategy and find a way of rescuing the team. But where we stand, as the supporters and management of the team, we are not going down.”

Swallows will be celebrating their 70th Anniversary in October, a month in which they will be announcing new plans.
