Polokwane pay R1 million to Senegalese striker

Senegalese striker Faye Baptiste signed for Polokwane City in 2015, but his contract was terminated a year later.

He then demanded to be compensated for the remainder of his contract, but City did not pay the full amount asked by the payer.

The matter was then taken to Fifa by the South African Football Players’ Union (Safpu) and Fifa ordered City to pay Faye R1 million.

Safpu secretary Nhlanhla Shabalala has now confirmed that they received proof of payment from City on Monday.

“It just shows that Fifa is for the players and they protect the players’ interests, and they make sure their rights are not infringed upon,” Shabalala told The Sowetan.

AmaZulu lost six points recently after they failed to comply with a Fifa ruling. This was after they missed the deadline to pay Namibian player Phinheas Nambandi over R1 million.

“You see that when these clubs fail to comply, they impose sanctions and they are not apologetic. They make unpopular decisions, but those decisions are fair,” Shabalala commented.
