Pirates coach calls Baroka players “master tacticians of time wasting”

Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids accused Baroka FC players of being master tacticians when it comes to time wasting following their goalless draw in the DStv Premiership tie at the Orlando Stadium on Thursday.

Davids’ Pirates were dominant and created better opportunities in the game, especially in the first half and Davids believes they could have won the encounter had the Baroka players not wasted time in the second half.

“It was a game where we should have won, but you can’t falter the players in terms of creating chances, in terms of dominance, in terms of putting them on the backfoot and not getting anything against us. They had a few moments on the counter attack, but yes, we know we should have done better today to seal the victory. These are moments in the first half, you have to take them, you have to open the game because you are playing to their hand,” said Davids.

“They are the masters of the second half, where you play for 20 minutes and the player goes down. We knew it was coming, always (they have) a player down. They are the masters of wasting time and you don’t get the time back. In the second half, we knew we won’t get that momentum because there is always a player down.  They are really good at that, they are the masters. Previously it was Elvis Chipezeze going down, today it was every player on the pitch going down, breaking the momentum,” added Davids.

With the result, Bucs missed out on an opportunity to record their third straight win and they now remain in position on the league standings with 19 points after 13 games.

This is not the first time Baroka have been accused of time wasting. In the past, former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane called Chipezeze master of “sitting and killing a game” after playing to a 0-0 draw with Bakgaga in 2018.
