Pirates appoints goalkeeper coach

Orlando Pirates have announced the arrival of a new first team goalkeeper coach at the club.

Jyri Nieminen replaces Andrew Sparkes as the first team’s goalkeeper coach.

Sparkes left Pirates two week ago after spending one season with the Soweto giants.

Nieminen worked in the MLS with the San Jose Earthquakes before joining the Buccaneers.

The experienced 31-year-old will work with Wayne Sandilands, Brilliant Khuzwayo and Siyabonga Mpontshane.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Jyri Nieminen as the first team goalkeeper coach,” read a statement from the club.

“Nieminen worked as the goalkeeper coach for the Aspire Academy and Qatar U-17 National Team, where he specialised in elite player development and game analysis.”
