NYCFC have been trying to bring the 22-year-old to the MLS earlier this season from Brøndby IF, however the Danish club rejected their offer.
The New York-based club had previously shown interest in Keagan Dolly who has since joined Montpellier HSC from Mamelodi Sundowns.
According to NYCFCnation.com, Phiri’s contract in Denmark expires in June and he is expected to join NYCFC on a free transfer.
NYCFC are said to have one spot for a foreign player in their squad and they hope Phiri will fill it in June.
