Papic leaves Eagles, team claims he is on sick leave

A source has revealed that Eagles have parted with their coach, Kostadin Papic at this critical stage of the season.

“Papic is gone,” said the source. “He left a few weeks ago after the team hired Angelo Tsichlas as technical advisor. He didn’t appreciate how he was just brought in without his consulation and he asked for leave but he is not coming back,” added the source.

The club have said Papic asked for sick leave to have an operation on his back and has gone back home to Serbia for treatment.

While Papic has been away, Joel Masutha has been in charge but results have not been coming with the side losing two and winning just one of their last three matches. This has seen the team slip to fifth on the NFD log.

Things could yet get uglier for the Pietermaritzburg based team when they play log leaders, Thanda Royal Zulu at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday afternoon. A defeat to Thanda could mean the club should kiss their promotion chances goodbye.

Fixtures:

Saturday: Milano United v Mbombela United; Royal Eagles v Thanda Royal Zulu; Magesi FC v FC Cape Town; Mthatha Bucks v Witbank Spurs

Sunday: University of Pretoria v Stellenbosch; Santos v Real Kings; AmaZulu FC v Cape Town All Stars
