Orlando Pirates set to boost striking force in next transfer window

Goal scoring seems to be a major issue at Orlando Pirates, despite the club acquiring the services of Ghanaian striker Kwame Peprah at the beginning of the season.

Star striker Zakhele Lepasa is still out injured, while the likes of Terrence Dzvukamanja and Tshegofatso Mabasa have failed to be consistent in terms of getting goals for the club. Mabasa has only found the back of the net twice in his last nine appearances for the club and Dzvukamanja is yet to score, having made 12 appearances for Pirates this season.

On the other side, disciplinary issues have seen Gabadinho Mhango missing out a number of games so far for the club this campaign. While recently promoted academy striker Boitumelo Radiopane is finding it hard to break into the senior team despite scoring goals week in and week out for the reserves in the DStv Diski Challenge.

Peprah, meanwhile, has made five appearances for Pirates, including one start, but the highly rated goal-poacher from Ghana is yet to register a goal for the Soweto giants.

Overall, Pirates have only scored 11 goals, while conceding 10 in their last 10 league games.

This has seen the Buccaneers being linked with a number of top performing strikers in the league, with Victor Letsoalo of Royal AM and Sekhukhune United’s Chibuike Ohizu said to be among their top targets, as the club look to fix problems upfront ahead of January transfer window.

Ohizu has been sensational for Babina Noko since joining the club from GladAfrica side Jomo Cosmos last year. The Nigerian striker has scored five goals in his last eight games. He is currently the third highest goal-scorer in the league, level with Kaizer Chiefs’ Keagan Dolly.

Letsoalo, meanwhile, has been a consistent goal-scorer for Royal AM and Bafana Bafana, with the striker having netted six times in his last eight games. His performances are said to have also attracted interest from other teams, including Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The two goal poachers will certainly be good buys for the Buccaneers, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to acquire their services or not.
