In a recent conversation with the media, ahead of Chiefs’ Carling Knockout opener against AmaZulu FC, Ntseki expressed his gratitude for the 79-year-old chairman, who celebrated his birthday recently.
Motaung, with a history that includes playing for Orlando Pirates and Atlanta Chiefs in the United States, boasts over 50 years in the game.
He founded Kaizer Chiefs when he was just 26 years old. Ntseki disclosed that he routinely holds pre-game meetings with Motaung, where they exchange ideas and discuss team updates.
This collaboration underscores the integral role Motaung plays in the club’s operations.
“I always say it’s a privilege to be part of this brand,” said Ntseki. “I mean, you have a chairman who played football, we have a chairman who has been in the game for more than 53 years.
“So, I think his wisdom will always come out. And it is very important. Before every game, I always have a pre-match meeting with Motaung.”
Technical conversations with Motaung helpful
Ntseki says in these meetings, he updates Motaung about his team and what they are planning as a technical team.
“This is just to take him through the team, take him through the injuries, take him through the plan that we want to employ in that particular game.
“And that has been going very well, and with his background, with his experience, it has been very good technical conversations.
“And I think technical conversations are always important because even if you meet somebody in the street who has got something to say about the game, it is a free lesson.
“Be it from the person you meet in the street or from your side. What is important is that football is evolving.
“And as football evolves, it is also important to have those technical conversations. The rest of the club members who have been in the game for long, they always have a role to play.
“They always have something to say that you can always look into, because it’s a big team, football is a massive sport.
“You cannot always be doing everything all by yourself without listening and, at times, getting some advice from the people that are around you,” explained Ntseki.
