No parties for Kaizer Chiefs players

Amakhosi had a somewhat impressive ending to the year with two back-to-back wins easing the pressure on the team who are now third on the Premiership standings.

“We will not go on break. We will give players a few days off. We will be back at training from Wednesday until Friday. Then we will be off for the weekend until January 2 which is when we will start our preparations for the SuperSport United game.

“You can’t let them be out for a long time, even if you want to. We are in the business of entertaining people. When everyone celebrates, we are the ones tasked with entertaining them,” he said.

The wins against Platinum Stars and Ajax have given Amakhosi fans some hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. And while the six points moved Amakhosi to third position, there is still pressure on the team and especially Komphela to deliver some silverware to the club’s head office in Naturena.

The team are now left with only the Premiership and Nedbank Cup to avoid going a full three seasons without any official trophies.

Komphela’s team – who have been victims of their own undoing – will have some added bite up front with Leonardo Castro the first confirmed signing for the team ahead of the January transfer window.

Amakhosi have also been linked with Ajax striker Prince Nxumalo, who has since gone AWOL at his team. Komphela however indicated there could be a foreign player joining the club in January.

“We still have a space for one more foreign player. But it is never easy, which is why you first try to work with what you have,” he said.
