No Khuzwayo for Pirates in Soweto derby

Brilliant Khuzwayo will have to wait a little bit longer to face his former team Kaizer Chiefs.

This is after his Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic ruled him out of Saturday’s Soweto derby against Amakhosi at the FNB Stadium.

With the Pirates goalkeeping derpartment having come under scrutiny in recent months, many Pirates fans were hoping that Khuzwayo will be given the nod to start in goals for Bucs, in what would have been his first official game for the Sea Robbers, having joined them from Chiefs at the beginning of the season.

Sredojevic, however, says the 28-year-old shot stopper still has a long way to go before he starts for Pirates.

“I would say we have a clean bill of health so to speak, with the exception of Brilliant Khuzwayo. The nature of this match is such that even when injured, the players would still want to be part of it. But Brilliant still needs to get proper clearance,” Sredojevic told the media at the PSL offices in Parktown today.

Siyabonga Mpontshane is expected to start in goals for Pirates, with Jackson Mabokgwane as his cover on the bench.

But such is the nature of the derbies, one could not rule out the possibility of Khuzwayo making a surprise start in goals for Pirates.
