NFD wrap: Limpopo derby ends in draw

The match is fast becoming a big derby with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila mounting a serious challenge to become one of Limpopo’s big teams while Black Leopards are unwilling to give up their position to the newly formed side.

Another match that had caught eyes also ended in a draw as Highlands Park could not get the better of Real Kings at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa.

Jomo Cosmos almost the full points in the bag when a late goals denied them a win at Vosloorus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Richards Bay 2 (M. Gumede; M. Roelf) Stellenbosch 1 (D. Saal)
The Rich Boys snapped up a second consecutive win with Michael Gumede and Michael Roelf scored to ensure the struggling side ease their relegation worries beating Stellenbosch FC 2-1. Devon Saal scored for the visitors. Richards Bay have now moved up to 14 and are five points ahead of the relegation positions.

AmaTuks 1 (T. Da Serra) Super Eagles 3 (M. Mokoena x 3)
AmaTuks have again lost their compass and struggled against Super Eagles who ended up beating them 3-1 with Modibedi Mokoena the hero of the day with his hatrick. Tiago Da Serra’s goal was not enough to stop the Nest Boys from running away with the full points. AmaTuks however remain fourth and win the race for promotuion to the elite league next season.

Mthatha Bucks 3 (M. Erasmus x 2; S. Dubula) Royal Eagles 3 (Zulu; D. Brown; S. Ngubo)
Amathol’amnyama had to come-from-behind to secure a draw against a much improved Royal Eagles side who scored three in the first half and looked to have the match wrapped up. David Zulu, Diego Brown and Siyanda Ngubo were on target for Eagles in the first half while Mpho Erasmus scored twice before Siyabonga Dubula ensured parity and a share of the spoils. Mthatha however remain bottom with Eagles in 14th and one point ahead of them.

Mbombela United 1 Ubuntu CPT 2 (D. Booysen; W. Isaacs)
David Booysen and Wassem Isaacs were on target for Ubuntu as they recorded their second win in a row when they beat Mbombela United 2-1. It was not clear who scored for Mbembela at the time of publishing this report. Ubuntu have moved off the bottom but are still one place and one point above Mthatha Bucks.

Witbank Spurs 2 (D. Sikhosana; J. Christian) Uthongathi FC 0
The Cane Cutters’ decline in standings continued as they suffered another defeat, this time taking a 2-0 beating from Siyavutha who were on fire on the day. Doctor Sikhosana and veteran defender, Jermaine Christian were the scorers on the day. Siyavutha are now fifth on the log but are 10 points behind leaders Highlands Park.

The Lions of the North had to settle for a draw as a marauding Magic Boys tried to unsettle and upset their impressive run of 13 matches without a loss. Lindokuhle Mtshali scored for the visitors while Brandon Theron’s goal ensured the home side keep their five point lead at the top.

Jomo Cosmos 1 (L. Hlongwane) CT All Stars 1 (R. Gamaldien)
A last minute goal by Ruzaigh Gamaldien denied Ezenkosi a chance to close in on Highlands Park as it helped Cape Town All Stars earn and important point away from home. Linda Hlongwane had put Cosmos ahead in the first half and they looked to be heading for a win when Gamaldien scored with practically the last kick of the match at Vosloorus Stadium. Ezenkosi are still second and five points behind Highlands Park.

Tshakhuma 1 (C. Nyadombo) Black Leopards 1 (X. Ndlovu)
The much anticipated Venda derby ended in a draw yet again. Played in front of a packed Giyani Stadium, the match was a feast for the fans and carlington Nyadombo cancelled out Xolani Ndlovu’s goal to ensure the spoils are shared.
