NFD wrap: Goals galore in NFD while Premiership suffers drought
While a goal drought is setting the tongues wagging and leaving coaches frustrated in the Absa Premiership, the National First Division (NFD) has a deluge.
Just last weekend alone, 20 goals were scored as the likes of Jomo Cosmos, University of Pretoria and Ubuntu Cape Town FC went on a rampage.
It is a pity, however, that when top scorers from the NFD finally graduate to the top flight they hardly ever find their scoring touch again.
Cape Town All Stars 0 Uthongathi 0
Having recently fired their second coach, Igugu leKapa continued their indifferent run as they were held to a draw by lowly Cane Cutters.
Highlands Park 0 Witbank Spurs 0
Siyavutha will be happy to have left Makhulong Stadium which has become a slaughter house recently with a point. The Lions of the North will see it as missed chance to keep a safe distance between them and second placed University of Pretoria who are now just a point behind.
University of Pretoria 3 (R. Sebastiao; T. Moseki X2) Richards Bay 0
It was always going to be hard for embattled Rich Boys to eke out anything from Shaun Bartlett’s well-oiled machine. Thabo Moseki scored a brace and Ritchi Sebastiao also added his name. AmaTuks have cut Highlands Park’s lead to just one point.
Tshakhuma TM 2 Royal Eagles 2
An away draw is a big result for ailing Eagles who are lying third from bottom with just 11 points after 12 matches. No information on the scorers was available as yet.
Super Eagles 1 (B. Mbuli) Black Leopards 2 (M. Musonda; P. Nange)
Lidoda Duvha seem to have found their rhythm since axing Jean Luscuito and continued their positive run with an away win at Super Eagles. Bongani Mbuli scored for the home side while Mwape Musonda and Phathutshedzo Nange ensured the three points get on the bus back to Limpopo. The win saw Lidoda Duvha break into the top eight.
Sunday
Jomo Cosmos 4 (L. Mntambo; A. Lebahi; M. Macuphu; C. Mulenga) Mbombela United 1 (T. Liphoko)
Ezenkosi were in mean mood as they took Tingwenyama apart with a blazing display. Linda Mntambo again led from the front, opening the scoring before Ange Lebahi, Mxolisi Macuphu and Clifford Mulenga followed suit with a goal each. Tshepo Lipho found the consolation goal for the visitors. The win saw Jomo Sono’s side move to third and just two points behind leaders Highlands Park while Tingwenyama dropped one place to fourth.
Mthatha Bucks 1 (L. Mathosi) Ubuntu FC 4 (F. Cale; R. Chivaviro; B. Sibanda; T. Ganga)
A day Amathol’amnyama would rather forget ever happened as they were turned into shadow chasing zombies by an Ubuntu side propelled by their desire to move away from the bottom place they currently occupy. Franklyn Cale’s experience came through as he put the visitors in front just three minutes into the match with a header. Ranga Chivaviro then made it 2-0 before half time. Bukhosi Sibanda added a third while Tahiir Ganga put the final nail. Lucky Mathosi scored the consolation goal for the home side who have now dropped to 11th on the log. Ubuntu remain bottom but have cut the points deficit incredibly.
Real Kings 0 Stellenbosch FC 0
Nothing to write home about as the Magic Boys squandered some good chances and the match ended in a goalless draw.
