New signing Baccus happy with Chiefs debut

Baccus, who joined Chiefs from Australian side Melbourne City during the offseason, made his first appearance for Chiefs in the 3-2 win over Highlands Park last weekend.

He provided an assist for Lebogang Manyama to score the first goal of the match.

“I was happy to be in the starting line-up,” Baccus told the Chiefs website. “It was good to see so many Kaizer Chiefs supporters in and around the stadium. The supporters turned up in big numbers which is a boost for the season.

“The stadium was packed, and the spectators were loud and cheering us on. I was very happy to make my debut. I didn’t perform as I wanted though. Before any match, I try and relax as much as I can. At camp, I shared a room with Leonardo Castro. We watched movies and had some interesting conversations. The coach told me on Sunday morning that Leo was, unfortunately, struggling with an injury.

“The pitch was very difficult to play on. Also, we were caught off guard by their long balls. It was good to get a win and start the season with three points,” added Baccus.

Baccus is hoping to help Chiefs make it two wins in two matches when they host Black Leopards at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

“Another win this weekend will be key,” commented Baccus. “My families watched on and were happy to see me playing for Chiefs. I wish to play in Durban. I will work hard. With more training and matches, I will get to my best.”

The game against Leopards is expected to start at 8.15pm.
