Nedbank Cup final: Key players for Pirates and Sekhukhune

Phakaaathi takes a look at three players from both Bucs and Babina Noko who will be key to the success of their respective teams.


The Nedbank Cup final between Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United is expected to bring some fire-works at the Loftus Stadium on Saturday.

In a game like this, there are so many expectations and the final of any tournament tends to bring out the best in players and some end up being the heroes.

Phakaaathi takes a look at three players from both Bucs and Babina Noko who might be key to the success of their respective teams.

Orlando Pirates

Monnapule Saleng

The winger’s has been the star performer for Pirates this season and is nominated in four categories for the Premier Soccer League awards. He was the key player in Bucs lifting the MTN8 and he has also done well throughout the Ke Yona competition by making assists and scoring goals.

Thembinkosi Lorch

After sitting out a couple of games due to injury, Lorch is back to full fitness having featured in the team’s previous game against AmaZulu FC. The attacking midfielder is one of the dangerous offensive players for Bucs with a good eye for goals and able to break any defensive block.

Terrence Dzvukamanja

For a player who was written off at the start of the season, the striker has really repaid coach Jose Riveiro faith in him. Dzvukamanja has scored some crucial goals for the club. He has netted seven goals for the Buccaneers so far and will be looking to get on the score-sheet in the final.

Sekhukhune United

Edwin Gyimah

The hard tackling defender will be entrusted with keeping Pirates attacking players at bay. He has been very solid at the back for Babina Noko. He has proved to be dangerous on set-pieces as well after scoring against Pirates and SuperSport United in their last two games.

Victor Letsoalo

Letsoalo is considered by many as one of the top strikers in the country. He is another experienced player in the Sekhukhune squad and having him upfront will give the Buccaneers a headache. He makes good runs and he is composed inside the box.

Sibusiso Vilakazi

Vilakazi’s experience has been vital for Sekhukhune and having played and won many cup finals. He will surely be the key to the team’s success. He has managed to blend in well at the club and having reached the final in his first season with the team, he will be motivated to deliver the trophy.
