Most draws so far – Where’s Bucs’ ship steering to?

With five stalemates from eight games, The Buccaneers have registered more draws than any other side in the league so far this season.

Things aren’t going well for Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership after they recorded their third successive draw in the league following their 1-1 draw with Royal AM at the Orlando Stadium on Thursday night.

With eight games played, the result saw the Buccaneers register their fifth draw of the season, making them the club with the most stalemates in the league so far. They’ve registered two victories and one loss in the process, amassing 11 points and they sit in position seven on the league standings.

During the game against Royal, the Soweto giants had to claw their way back into the game after the visitors scored first, before Bucs responded just before the teams went into the break.

But, Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids believes his troops’s failure to utilise their goal-scoring chances let them down, and says they were a better team on the day.

“Not how we wanted to start the game, quite nervy – not being able to build up, to progress the ball, to keep the ball. On the other hand, we created our biggest chances in the first half, really clear cut chances, we could have been 1-0 or 2-0 up,” said the Pirates during a virtual press conference after the match.

“I think with our dominance, with our chances we had in the first half and dominance in the second half, it was definitely a game we should have won.”

The outcome of the match was really disappointing for Davids and the rest of the club’s technical team, especially after a successful weekend playing in the Caf Confederation Cup, where they were able to advance to the final of the qualifiers for the group stages after beating Diables Noirs 1-0 on aggregate.

But, it’s in the domestic league where the club will be looking to get things going accordingly, with defending league champions Mamelodi Sundowns taking the lead at the top of the standings with 19 points with one game in hand.

Next up for Pirates it’s an interesting clash against Sekhukhune United at home next Tuesday, on 2 November.
