Pitso Mosimane has previously described Mamelodi Sundowns’ Absa Premiership game against Maritzburg United tonight as a “thorn in the flesh” and has now said his side are facing the Team of Choice at the wrong time.
Although United are at the foot of the table, Mosimane says the Eric Tinkler-led side are on the rise and that might make it difficult for Masandawana to chisel out all three points at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
“A game against Maritzburg United is always an exciting game whenever we are there but I think we are playing them at the wrong time. I think we should have played them when they were at a low ebb but now they are on a high, they are fighting for their lives,” said Mosimane.
“Whenever you play a team that is trying to survive, it is the most dangerous thing,” he added.
The former Bafana Bafana coach continued: “What you have to do is to thread carefully and know that they need a win more than we need a win. Whenever you play against a team that needs the points more than you, they tend to have more heart and they fight more but if we can match the fight we should be able to come away with something.”
Masandawana are searching for what would be a first ever successful title defence under “Jingles”, and if they are to achieve that, this is what Mosimane believes they should do: “If we really want to be on top of the table and keep going with it, we should keep winning because these are the games we have to play to catch up. If we don’t win these games they will always give us a problem, so we have to win the game and go to Wydad Casablanca on Saturday with confidence and we are in a good position now that we have won against Lobi Stars.”
