Mosimane bemoans missed chances in Shell Cup drubbing

Sundowns lost 4-2 to Chiefs in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Mosimane fielded fringe players in the first half and his side went on to concede four goals before the half time break.

In the second half the introduction of Ali Meza, Hlompho Kekana and Gaston Sirino saw Sundowns score two goals and create several clear cut chances that were not converted by Mosimane’s men.

“We played well [in] the second half, you have to make the changes, you gotta give Aubrey Ngoma a chance, you gotta give Andile Jali a chance, you gotta give Oupa Manyisa a chance, you gotta give them a chance to play and that’s what we did,” Mosimane told SABC.

“And Chiefs were better than us in the first half, in the midfield we didn’t press the ball. The ball that was put through all the time we didn’t press it,” he continued.

“But you have to understand the midfield that is playing now is not really the midfield that is always playing when we apply a lot of pressure and press the ball. That’s what happened and they got the goals, the goals were good and legitimate. They were right goals, that’s what happened in the first half.

“But in the second half, we should have had [scored] six goals, let’s be honest. Unbelievable misses, it’s not funny. So this game could have turned around to 5 or 6 but could have should have.

“From last year to this year, last year they [Kaizer Chiefs] played the same team and we played a team that is not usually playing and we won, so why shouldn’t I give them a chance again and trust them on this one. But they lost this time, the team that I played in the first half, okay. So [in the] second-half I corrected. We changed a few things and I played my ‘A’ team in the second-half. Good game, congratulations to them, they deserve a win,” he concluded.
