Morrison eyes starting berth at Pirates

After making his first appearance for Orlando Pirates under the mentorship of coach Kjell Jonevret, Bernard Morrison says he needs to do extra work for a starting berth.

Morrison joined the Buccaneers from AS Vita Club in June last year after his impressive performance in the Caf Champions League. However, the winger has not cemented his place in the first team.

“One has to admit that Pirates is a big team with a number of quality players, which makes a competition for a starting berth very stiff,” Morrison told Vodacom Soccer.

“But, now I know where I need to work and improve as a player in the team of Pirates’ calibre in order to consolidate a place in the starting XI.”

The Ghanaian featured in Pirates’ recent 3-1 victory over ABC Motsepe outfit EC Bees in the Nedbank Cup Last 32.

“I was happy to be in the starting XI in that Nedbank Cup game, though I think I could have done better in that game, but I was happy to be given a run, and am prepared to work even harder at training.

“Look, the new coach (Kjell Jonevret) has recently taken over and he gives every player in the team a chance. So, like any other fringe players in the team, I have no choice but to double my efforts to impress.”
