Molangoane backs Katsande to bounce back

Joseph Molangoane has backed team-mate Willard Katsande to bounce back after his penalty miss against Pirates in the Soweto derby.

Katsande saw his spot kick saved by Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo in the 84th minute, with the teams still locked at 1-1.

“He’s a top player and top players bounce back,” Molangoane told the club’s website.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he scores a few in his next few games.

“I thought he played well in the game, he was just unlucky with the penalty. It is one of those things, you need the character to step up.

“He’ll bounce back, I’m sure, he has the character and strength to come through it and play well.”

Meanwhile, Molangoane is happy to have scored in his first Soweto derby match.

The midfielder opened the scoring for Chiefs in the 18th minute when he tapped in a cross from Bernard Parker. However, a mix-up at the back cancelled the lead in the 33rd minute when Thembinkosi Lorch’s shot deflected off Tsepo Masilela and Itumeleng Khune into the back of the net.

“I am very happy, especially scoring in a game of this magnitude where everyone is watching,” said Molangoane.

“Obviously I would have wanted us to get the win, but we played well as a team and showed our fans how much we wanted to win this game.

“We are playing good football. Unfortunately we could not put the game away when we had the chance to, but we played well – that’s important for us going forward.”
