When it comes to targets, Mamelodi Sundowns usually divide the 30 DStv Premiership games into a group of five games, and in the last 10, they accumulated 26 points to stay at the summit of the log but, Downs have already dropped two points in the new cycle of five games as they began that with a 2-2 draw against SuperSport United.

Masandawana’s next opponents are Sekhukhune, who are in fine form as they sit third on the log. Sundowns co-head coach Rhulani Mokwena says his side will need to get back on track if they are to meet their targets, following underwhelming results in recent games.
“This block is a difficult group of games but we have a certain target from those. For us it is just game by game, there is so much work to be done because the season is too long,” said Mokwena before he made reference to the time when the Brazilians launched a fight back to overtake Kaizer Chiefs two seasons ago.
Whilst most supporters jokingly say Sundowns must be handed the title already as they seem to be unstoppable, Mokwena warms against that line of thought.
“The season before the last one was a very good case study where Chiefs had a huge number of points ahead of us going into the last round of fixtures. It is very easy to lose sight and then start counting your eggs before they hatch. Whenever we don’t win a game, the first starting point is: did we prepare enough? Did we show the players what they need to know? We have to take the responsibility as coaches because it is 150% on our shoulders,” said Mokwena.
The former Orlando Pirates and Chippa United mentor added: “Sometimes the results can be misleading because we have won games where we have not played very well and we have now dropped a couple of points because we have not played well. We have to improve and give performances that are worthy of winning matches and to do that we have to make sure we don’t give a lot of chances to the opposition.”
