Mind games and being on TV did the trick for Cosmos

The Jomo Cosmos owner and coach says toying with Baroka FC played a huge role in knocking them out of the Nedbank Cup on Tuesday night.

“When I said on TV that we have no chance, it was a mind game and they fell for it. If you say you have no chance, we are going to lose, they started knocking the ball around and I said to my players ‘let’s go for them’ because they thought it was going to be a holiday,” said Sono.

“We could have won by four goals, we missed clear chances and we were only playing counter attack, we didn’t do much,” he added.

The “Black Prince” said having the game broadcast live on television motivated his players to up their game.

“They were on TV, they saw the TV and they said we have to run because our girlfriends and our families are watching us. TV makes a big difference, they have not been on TV so I said to them ‘go and play’ and enjoy it, and they did,” Sono said, before stating that Ezenkosi are vying for the Nedbank Cup honours.

“Last year we knocked Bidvest Wits out and we are just hoping we get an easy draw so that we can march on. The big boys are not here, we fancy our chances, we’ll give it a go but we have to keep 90% of the concentration on the league.”
