According to SowetanLive the striker went for trials at Portuguese club Victoria Setubal last year in hopes of getting a contract.
Mhango scored two goals for Wits in nine games in the 2018/19 season, leaving his future at the club hanging in the balance.
The Malawian international has been a regular in the national team despite his lack of game time with the Clever Boys.
The speedy forward suffered an injury last season which kept him out of action and led to him losing his place in coach Gavin Hunt’s starting line-up.
Mhango joined Wits from Golden Arrows and helped the Clever Boys win their first league title and the MTN 8 cup, before falling down the pecking order at the Milpark club after recovering from his injury.
