It will hurt to applaud Wits at FNB – Cardoso
Kaizer Chiefs defender, Daniel Cardoso believes Amakhosi will be successful next season if the team is not tampered with, and only one or two players are added.
Cardoso said the team has made some progress and it would be favourable to keep the players together again for the next campaign.
“Going forward – yes we haven’t won anything – but the team has come together compared to last season. We are better off than we were last season. We went on a 15 game unbeaten run. We gelled better… The players grew to know Steve’s philosophy and his raining methods,” said the former Free State Stars player.
Cardoso believes the massive changes that were effected at the beginning of the season hampered the progress somehow although he complimented the new players who were brought in for adapting quickly enough.
“If we bring in one or two players they will learn and adapt quicker… not eight like it was this season. If we can keep the same squad we will win some trophies. We brought in eight players and they had to adjust and learn and I think they picked up pretty quick,” he said.
Amakhosi are expected to give new Absa Premiership champions Bidvest Wits a guard of honour before their match at FNB Stadium on Saturday and later watch as they are handed their trophy. Cardoso admitted that it will be a sombre moment for them as their own fans will have to applaud another team’s success when they didn’t have any joy this season.
“It’s been tough training this week especially knowing that we have to watch Wits take the trophy in our own ground. It’s been a bitter pill to swallow,” he said.
