The arrival of Mpho Makola at Polokwane City will increase the club’s chances of getting automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership, hence the club was quick to sign him, an insider at the Limpopo-based club has revealed.

Makola signed with Polokwane City after he was released by Cape Town City.

Polokwane are in the race for promotion to the top-flight and the club is aiming at winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship, rather than having to battle it out in the playoffs.

The Limpopo club’s coach Duncan Lechesa is said to be the major reason behind Makola’s arrival at the club and he believes his experience will add a lot of value at the club and inspire other players to dream big.

“(Bibo) has played in the top league for many years now and his experience will play a major role at the club, that’s what they believe. The team already has some top players who have played at big teams, like Lucky Baloyi and Lerato Lamola, so, having another experienced player will be good for the team,” said the insider.

“We are already one of the top three teams in the league who are racing for the title. It’s important to have a balanced squad at this stage and make sure you have players who are capable of handling the pressure. That’s why Makola is in the team, he also believes in the squad.”

“Coach Duncan believes in him and he knows that he will bring something good into the team. The mandate is very clear and Bibo also knows what is expected from him. He won’t be treated any differently, but like any other player in the team. The good thing is that he is a great guy and a good professional who respects his career.”

Makola, who is 36-years old, has also played for Free State Stars, Orlando Pirates and has a couple of appearances for Bafana Bafana.
