Stellenbosch FC are said to be preparing a one-year extension to the contract of former Orlando Pirates left-back Marc van Heerden, whose contract with the club ends when the current season finishes. The defender is one of the experienced players in the Stellies squad, alongside Granwald Scott and Robyn Johannes.
At 34-years, Van Heerden has been very solid for the Mother City based club and he is considered as one of the most disciplined players in the team having joined the club back in 2019.
A source at the club says the renewal of Van Heerden’s contract will, however, it will all depend on the player’s mutual agreement with the team.

“When you are at his age it is not easy to negotiate a contract, unless you are a regular in the team and a very special player. I am not saying that he is not contributing at the club, he is doing a lot, even outside the field, he guides the youngsters.
“But, the team will offer him something, a one year extension at least because his contract is expiring in June. It will be a matter of whether he likes what he is being offered or not, if not, he has no choice but to leave because I think he was considering ending his career should he not get a new contract.
“But, I am sure the coach would like him to stay, they have worked together before and they have a very good understanding with each other,” the source revealed.
