Spurs keen to keep on loan Pirates striker

Boitumelo Radiopane’s loan spell with Cape Town Spurs has pushed the club to ask Orlando Pirates for the striker to remain with the club.

Radiopane was sent out on loan to Spurs at the beginning of the season by the Buccaneers.

His move to Cape Town proved to be worthwhile as he managed to contribute immensely to Shaun Bartlett’s troops’ attempt to get from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the top-tier. That ended in disappointment this weekend as they failed to win the Championship, though they will get another shot at promotion in the play-offs.

But Spurs’ request for Radiopane is likely to be declined by his parent club, as they reckon he is good value to the team for next season.

“It’s not really a surprise that they want to keep him for longer. He has done really well for them and scored some crucial goals this season. It’s going to be a very important season for them, and they want to have someone like Radiopane to be there and help them to be competent in the PSL (DStv Premiership) if they get promoted,” said the insider.

“It’s a tricky situation because Pirates technical team is happy with his progress. The club is going to play in Caf next season, and they need all the depth they can have in their squad. Especially someone who has done well like him (Radiopane). But there are still a lot of things that are going to happen at the club (Pirates) when the season ends. Some guys are coming to the end of their contracts and will be leaving the team, while there will also be new arrivals at the club. So, we will see how things will unfold once the season is done.”
