Pirates set to keep most fringe players

A source at the club has revealed that the technical staff’s goal is to keep most of the players who didn’t play much last season, like striker Thamsanqa Gabuza, Thabo Matlaba and Mpho Makola.

According to the source, the players’ lack of game time last campaign is not sitting well with them which has resulted in their future being uncertain at the club. But it is believed they will be retained due to their experience, but game time won’t be guaranteed.

“Look, you saw what happened last season. These guys didn’t play much and they are the most experienced players in the club. But it’s not easy to let go of such players because they are needed in the team to guide other players. And most importantly, when it’s tough, you know that you can rely on them and know they will do the job for you. But to be honest, it’s going to be very hard for most of the players who have been in the team for a long time to actually get a game,” said the source.
