Pirates join Chiefs in race for Keet’s signature

As reported earlier, Pirates’ Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs are also believed to be interested in the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

Amakhosi’s interest in Keet was confirmed by Wits coach Gavin Hunt who told the media that talks between the 29-year-old and Chiefs have already started.

Now a source close to Pirates has told Phakaaathi that Bucs also want to sign him.

“It’s no secret that Pirates want to boost their goalkeeping department at the end of the season after the blunders caused by the current goalkeepers this season. The goalkeeping department is the weakest link at Pirates and the club wants a top goalkeeper to boost this department and Keet fits the profile,” said the source.

“I [heard] Chiefs are interested in him, but I don’t think he will like to be (Itumeleng) Khune’s understudy. At Pirates, he stands a good chance of competing for the number one jersey because he’ll be competing with Brilliant (Khuzwayo), who is yet to establish himself at Pirates. So I think Pirates will win the race for Keet’s signature.”
