Joel Masutha has emerged as one of the candidates for the vacant coaching position at Swallows FC. The post was left vacant when Brandon Truter and his technical team were fired on Sunday evening following a 3-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs earlier in the day.

Masutha was also fired at GladAfrica Championship side Pretoria Callies last week. He has worked at Swallows before when they were campaigning in the first division and is said to have an amicable relationship with club chairman David Mogashoa.
“I believe he has been in touch with the club and could make a comeback soon. He had not done badly when he was there the first time
The names of Gavin Hunt and Gordon Igesund have also been mentioned among those of possible candidates.
“I think they will go for someone who will not be a big earner because I think the financial side is also not doing well in the club,” claimed a source.
Meanwhile, Phakaaathi has learnt that the real reason behind Masutha’s sacking at Callies was his efforts to save the players the club wanted to fire. As we previously reported, the Pretoria club wanted to cut their salary bill and the likes of Edward Manqele were on the list of those the team wanted to let go but Masutha stood up for them and urged that they at least be released at the end of the season.
“The issue of results and all other issues was not a matter until this thing of cutting off some players. Masutha tried to manage the situation but lost the fight.
“That is why it was decided that they should part ways,” said the source.
