The 25-years old midfielder has been with Matsatsantsa since 2018 after signing from Stellenbosch FC at the age of 19. Chiefs are said to be keen on bringing him to Naturena.
Webber, whose future was predicted to be bright while at Stellenbosch and playing for Bafana Bafana, hasn’t disappointed at SuperSport.
Chiefs are said to have been assessing the midfielder for some time now, especially since they were unable to lure either Sipho Mbule or Teboho Mokoena from the Pretoria club – the pair signed for Mamelodi Sundowns.
The insider says Chiefs scouts and technical staff have been busy assessing players they will be looking to sign after coach Arthur Zwane outlined the kind of players that he believes will help revive the club.
‘One of the best’
“Getting Webber’s signature will be huge for Chiefs, he is one of the best midfielders in the country. He is at the right age for his experience and the club believe that he can add a lot of value. There is something that the coach is working on, and a player like Webber is exactly what he needs,” said the informant.
“He (Arthur) wants to build a team full of young players who are fearless and can deliver at the same time, that’s his plan and he believes it will work for Chiefs. You can tell with the players who are playing at the moment like Mdu (Mduduzi Shabalala) and Samkelo (Zwane).
“Enquiries have already been made about Webber, what I heard is that SuperSport wants him to go overseas, so it is a tricky situation. But anything is possible.”
