Hunt out, Igesund in at Bidvest Wits?

Phakaaathi has learnt that Bidvest Wits are considering axing coach Gavin Hunt and replacing him with former Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund.

Wits, who are the defending league champions, have started the season on a bad note, winning just one of the opening seven matches.

They lost 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic this past weekend, and now a source close to Wits tells Phakaaathi that the team management is considering axing Hunt.

“The team has not only been losing games, but it’s been performing badly as well, so the management feels that a new man is need to turn the club’s fortunes. There’s lack of discipline in the team, and it looks like Gavin has lost the dressing room,” said the source.

“Talks between Wits and Gordon [Igesund] have already begun, and I think Hunt will be axed soon. But as it is the norm in SA football, they’ll be denials all round,” added the source.

Igesund is currently unattached after partying ways with Highlands Park in April after failing to lift the team out of the relegation zone.
