Matsatsantsa are without a coach following their dismissal of Kaitano Tembo last week.
Tembo was released following a string of inconsistent performances that led to the club’s management losing patience with him.
“I hear people complaining that Tembo was treated unfairly if you look at how the club sold some important players and never replaced them. But he knew about all that, he was part of the planning process as the club changed from buying ready-made players and focused more on developing their own,” said the source.
Benni McCarthy is among a number of coaches linked to the Matsatsantsa job but the source claimed that Hunt is the favourite at the moment. Hunt coached SuperSport to three consecutive league titles a few years ago.
He is currently jobless after he was fired at Chippa United.
“I think they will go with him because he believes in young players and has a proven record of assembling a team with players who are not too expensive.
“He also proved to be favouring young players at Chiefs and with what SuperSport want to do, it all augurs well. Plus he already knows the culture and everything about the club,” insisted the source.
